First Class Flight into ChengDu and Eating Bunnies!

The first class flight into ChengDu was exceptional. After a mani-pedi, you get a nice traditional thai style back massage, while you sip on Champagne...... okay, it wasn't that exceptional but it was still better than I thought for a domestic first class flight!

Let me tall you a little bit about ChengDu first. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chengdu) It is in the Sichuan province, right in the middle of China. If you think of the country as a clock, ChengDu and Sichuan province is in the middle, Shanghai is at 3 o'clock, Hong Kong is at around 5 o'clock, and Beijing is at around 1 o'clock. The time zone here is the same as Beijing, Hongkong, and Shanghai.

Sichuan is the most populous province in China, over 100 million people. ChengDu itself has 8 million residence. About the population of New York then The whole province has about ChengDu and Sichuan province is known for spicy foods. REALLY SPICY foods. I'm not talking about jalapenos or even the red naga chilly. That's kids stuff. The spiciness of the food here is off the charts! Incomprehensible unless you've tried the authentic stuff.

We arrived in ChengDu at about 4pm on Monday. We check into a French 5-Star hotel (http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-3717-sofitel-wanda-chengdu/index.shtml) called Sofitel Wanda. It is pretty bling, except (and this is a huge exception), the shower stall is made of glass and is COMPLETELY visible throughout the room. Damn! LOL

After settling in, we headed off to a near by Carrefour, which is a French Walmart. While there are a bunch of Walmarts in China, Carrefour is found everywhere. A giant superstore grocer then.

There, we found 60% alcohol (or 120 proof) chinese white wine for 5RMB, which is less than a $1 CAD. I bought a 95ml bottle for 2RMB which is about $0.30CAD LOL. Let me tell you, it is better than any Vodka or Japanese Sake that you've ever tasted! It tastes like a blend of Sake and Vodka, but you can really smell the rice flavor. Very good! Grey Goose has nothing on 30 cent Chinese Wine!

We walked around some more that afternoon and stumbled upon a section of cured meats. We poked around and found a packet of rabbit meat! Yummm Bunnies! LOL I've never tried rabbit, and apparently it is one of Sichuan province's specialties so we had to buy one. It was delicious. Tastes like duck, not chicken :P I washed that down with some 50% alcohol white wine. Great start to the trip. :P
